The story of the unheard-of girl Elektra, the function of the choir from the classical tragedies and the still universal issues were the reason for me to create this performance.

For my third year directing at the Academy for Theatre, I made a performance at Buitenenspel Theatre in Zundert. With a club of young adolescents VERSTOORD was created. The version in which Elektra could not suppress the unheard child in herself, the choir spit words at the audience like a machine gun and the general question was whether we as humans will ever learn from our age-old behavior.
An ancient story, told a thousand times, existed a thousand times. Of all the people walking this planet, no one has ever experienced a Greek tragedy in real life, or have they?
In this performance, young people are placed in a murderous world where a classic story is told about two children struggling with the blood vengeance within their own family. Although for many people an unfamiliar story, in 'VERSTOORD' the actors search for the connection between this ancient myth and today's society. Have we really learned from time?
VERSTOORD' is a performance that takes a critical look at the way in which our present-day democracy has interfered with our world and in which Greek mythical figures seem to come dangerously close. The responsibility is then placed with the viewer.
